Polidea introduces the Morizon Applications for Android

Morizon came to Polidea with a vision. They wanted to utilize the power of mobile to make their agents’ lives easier and get on with their day-to-day business on the move. Once the high level requirements had been agreed Polidea played a key part the project.

Polidea provided a full service during this project. Polidea’s User Experience experts and Graphical Designers ensured that the app was much more than just a web site transplanted to a tablet. The user interfaces were designed to be attractive, simple and above all usable. From these designs the engineering team took over. Using the latest Android framework for tablets the concepts were translated into tangible applications for Android Phones and Tablets. To ensure that the highest level of quality was delivered, Polidea’s QA team oversaw the whole test process. Underpinning the entire project Polidea’s Leadership and Management team followed the ‘Polidea Way’ of conducting projects, making sure the best tools and processes for the job were applied. This full service approach greatly increased the team’s efficiency and ensured a consistent user experience across both applications.

Together with Polidea, Morizon decided to divide the product into 2 separate apps; the first for regular users ‘Morizon.pl’ and the second ‘Morizon Pro’ is one of the first apps on the Android Market specifically for tablets.

Morizon PRO allows estate agents to use their tablet to work off site in the same way as they would in the office; managing offers and responding to client questions.

Morizon.pl gives property hunters the ability to search Morizon’s huge property database. The application boasts a simple and easy user interface to search, filter and organize searches. Search filtering is fully customizable and can be as detailed or as general as the user requires.

Jakub Lipinski Polidea CEO commented, “We’ve done a good job. This project really offered us the chance to show our skills not only as a development house, but also as a full service mobile agency. The customer’s business goals drove the app’s features, but we crafted the design and user experience as well as solving the technical challenges of bringing the full power of Morizon to mobile.”

Bolesław Drapella CEO of Morizon stated, “Working with Polidea was easy. We told them what we wanted to achieve and they helped us realize it in the mobile space. Having the key part of the development process hosted by them simplified and sped up the whole project. Morizon.pl is the first real-estate application in Poland while Morizon PRO is first such an app in Europe”

The Morizon applications are currently available for free from Android Market.

Finder fleet management applications released to the markets

Finder, the leader in fleet and personnel locating solutions, chose Polidea to develop mobile application to support their Finder On-Line platform on mobile devices.

Companies operating a fleet of vehicles have always faced the challenge of being able to identify where their vehicles are, what their status is, and what their drivers were doing.
Finder launched a modern system for effective vehicle management, giving access to important information about fleet and mobile personnel accessible from a computer.

The system allows managers to control vehicle use and provides in-depth analytics tools for raising efficiency. Managers were able to track vehicle activity through an online browser administrative panel, giving them access to task management and optimization, as well as the creation of reports for analysis.

Polidea developed applications for the iPhone, Android phones and the iPad that bring fleet tracking, reports and alerts to mobile devices. Users of the application have real-time access to their fleet information including which vehicles are active, where they are, and how fast they are moving. Vehicle trip information is recorded, giving the user an overview of where the vehicles have travelled, how long the trip took and which route was taken.

“We interfaced with the existing system employed by Finder in order to bring real-time information to the mobile devices.” said Jarek Potiuk, CTO of Polidea, “Finder has been very forward-looking by embracing mobile devices as part of their solution. This innovative approach has allowed them to be a leader in their field and offer a valuable tool for their customers.”

The main goal of the applications and the Finder system is to save time and money. Drivers feel a higher sense of responsibility to optimize their routes and know that they cannot go on personal errands during the workday. Managers are able to view reports and have access to all of their fleet information wherever they are. Alerts enabled within the application will push notifications to the user, keeping the user updated wherever they are.

“We are very happy with the applications developed by Polidea,” said Piotr Jakubowski, CEO of Finder S.A, “The functionality of the mobile applications allows fleet managers and drivers to receive all important fleet information, alerts and status updates wherever they happen to be. The convenience and ease of use of the mobile applications is a large added value for our customers.”

Finder has been operating since the year 2000. Currently, the company provides services in the area of locating solutions to about 2000 companies and track over 25,000 vehicles as part of the fleet tracking solution.

Polidea is an enterprise-level mobile application developer based in Warsaw, Poland. Polidea has developed applications for some of the most recognized brands in Poland, Europe and North America.
The company has developed applications for all major mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Bada, Windows Phone and WebOS.

The Finder applications are currently available for free from app stores of respective target platforms i.e. Android Market and Apple App Store.

MPay and Polidea launch payment application for Android phones

Polidea, a provider of enterprise-level mobile applications has developed a mobile payment application for mPay, the leader in mobile payments.

Paying for parking, tickets and transferring funds by mobile phone has never been easier thanks to an mPay Android application developed by Polidea. The free application does not require Internet access, nor does it incur extra costs related to data transfer during the payment.

The Android application allows users to pay for everyday services such as parking or public transit tickets directly from their phones. In addition, users can send money to other users using the application without the need for special equipment or NFC capability.

Users are able to select what they wish to purchase from an intuitive menu. Once an item has been selected, a USSD code is sent from the device. The user is able to confirm their purchase by entering their PIN in the USSD menu to confirm the transaction. The system currently allows the payment of parking in over a dozen major cities and public transit tickets in five major markets. The system also allows mobile payment in any other location that displays the mPay sticker and ID number. The system enables convenient mobile payments in hundreds of locations.

“The mPay system brings the convenience of mobile payments to the average mobile customer,” stated Piotr Warsicki, CEO of mPay, “The user is able to pay for everyday goods and services directly from their mobile device. They do not have to fumble around for change or even carry a wallet with them.”

Additionally, the mPay system allows for the transfer of money between users. This payment system allows users to accept mobile payments from other users that use the mPay application. The user simply needs to enter the phone number or choose the user from their address book, enter the amount they wish to transfer, and follow the same USSD confirmation.

“What we are seeing is a trend to turn the mobile phone into a virtual wallet,” commented Jarek Potiuk, CTO of Polidea, “The mPay system is innovative in that it works on virtually any phone. The new Android application provides even more convenient and user friendly way of making mobile payments without incurring extra costs of mobile data.”

Polidea launches a suite of Bada applications for Samsung

When Samsung wanted to show how fun and functional their phones can be, they asked Polidea to develop a wide variety of applications in Bada that would take advantage of the phones features. The applications are designed to use the built-in gyroscopes, touch screens and stunning displays.

“When we were approached to develop these applications, we saw it as an opportunity to show the versatility of these devices and our own strengths in developing a wide range of applications.” commented Jakub Lipinski, CEO of Polidea. “The timeline and scope of the project were challenging, but I believe we showed that we were able to play on our strengths and create some really great apps.”

Almost a dozen applications were created, from time-tested classics to arcade style shooters. The list of applications includes a basketball shooter, which takes advantage of the touchscreen to allow users a chance to practice their free-throws. Another application allows users to create useful shopping lists for their next trip to the market. Yet another application lets users calculate the value of money from one currency to another. Some of the other games developed include TicTacToe, Arkanoid, and a labyrinth game, which takes advantage of the built-in gyroscopes to let users navigate a maze.

Polidea, one of the leading developers of mobile applications in Poland, has increasingly been creating applications for international clients. “We have now developed a reputation that allows us to tackle more and more challenging projects across a variety of platforms." stated Jarek Potiuk, CTO at Polidea. Polidea develops applications for all major mobile platforms including Bada, Android and iOS.

The mobile applications are now available for all Samsung phones on Bada through Samsung Apps

Polidea ships an official Nokaut.pl for iPhone and Windows Mobile

Polidea announced today an immediate availability of native iPhone application for Nokaut.pl, one of the most popular Polish price comparison services.
The mobile application have been designed with speed and usage simplicity in mind. “Creating a mobile application for price savvy shoppers is much more than just wrapping a service website in a different graphic layout. The application needs to provide information as fast as possible, at the point of sale, if it is to be more useful than a website open in a mobile browser” said Jakub Lipiński, Polidea CEO. “Our Nokaut application uses variety of technologies and user interface optimizations to speed the price lookup process. Just to name a few – a customer can directly scan product barcode with phone’s camera, while the GPS takes care of estimating his location so that he can get instant information about nearby shops where this products can be purchased more cheaply. Try this with a mobile service! In short our app gives Nokaut.pl an immense edge over the competition on the Polish market”.

Nokaut.pl is the most popular product and service comparison and rating site in Poland, cooperating with over 3400 points of sale. The company has selected Polidea to develop applications initially for the iPhone and Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, the latter version being now in final stages of testing and will be released soon, while the iPhone version is available now from Apple App Store. Further development of versions for other popular mobile platforms is also currently considered.

Nokaut.pl for the iPhone is already available at the Apple App Store.

Polidea ships official Zumi.pl applications

Polidea announced today the successful completion of development and immediate availability of Zumi.pl. The applications, commissioned by Zumi.pl, have been designed for Apple iOS and Android operating system, with special emphasis on usage on tablet devices such as Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab.

"Zumi.pl is a very demanding client so this was somewhat of a honour – but also a great responsibility" said Polidea CEO Jakub Lipiński. "The creation of a mobile version of Zumi.pl has probably been the most interesting, technologically advanced and quite frankly most ambitious project on Polish mobile market to date. Our direct competitor is none one other than Google with their Google Maps and we are very proud of the final result of this competition. Our applications highlight Zumi.pl unique strengths: e.g. the best aerial imagery for Polish territory, most complete POI databases and live traffic information."

The mobile version of Zumi.pl provides most of the functionality of its desktop counterpart such as quick display and caching of both street maps and satellite imagery, routing, weather information, identification of dangerous road spots (including live webcam feeds) and extensive searchable The POI database including hotels, ATMs, restaurants, tourist attractions and even businesses (via KRS lookup).

"Zumi.pl is one of our most important and certainly most technologically complex services so choosing a top tier partner for our mobile project was crucial. Fortunately the decision turned out to be not that difficult as Polidea had done outstanding job for us previously – and this time they did not disappoint. In fact they exceeded our expectations" remarked Tomasz Nowak, Executive Director at Zumi.

The application is available for most popular smartphones such as iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S but it is the tablet platform where it really shines. The user interface for iPad version has been designed entirely from scratch by Polidea UI team.

"Our iPad version provides probably the best mapping experience one can get on a tablet today. We very carefully crafted and tested the interface and integrated our most innovative technologies such as Polidea AR - an augmented reality platform – to good use in this project" said Jarek Potiuk, Polidea CTO. "Getting the UI right was however only one part of the challenge. Mobile Zumi.pl has to work not only on high end tablets but also – or perhaps even primarily given their popularity – on multitude of Android smartphones currently available on the market. Our optimizations allowed us to create an application that works surprisingly well even on low end and cheap devices, equipped with relatively modest amount of memory and slow processors".

Polidea launches Pixblish - Publishing Platform for Mobile Devices

From this week on, the leading Polish weekly magazine, Tygodnik POLITYKA, will be available as an electronic publication for the Apple iPad. The issues will be prepared thanks to system based on Polidea Pixblish publishing platform that has been signed off to production today after a completion of publisher systems integration process at the Polityka publishing house.

"Pixblish is a completely new kind of a publishing platform for tablets, or perhaps even a new way of thinking about mobile publishing" commented Dr. John Bailey, Pixblish Manager at Polidea. "The traditional approach dictates treating the tablet as a completely new medium that requires laborious process of manual content creation. This means costs and time and is probably a reason why so many editors are afraid of launching mobile editions of their publications – despite wanting them so badly".

Pixblish’s philosophy is centered on maximum flexibility and content reuse. The platform gets the contents – be it article text, images, advertisements, multimedia or even audio tracks – directly from the publisher’s CMS system and transforms them automatically into pages suitable for target device: a tablet, a mobile phone or an e-ink based reader, based on a set of predefined styling layouts. There is no need for labour-intensive typesetting or other bespoke formatting or processing software, while manual fine tuning is still possible.

"We knew from the very beginning that as well as working on the iPad edition, we would need a platform which would allow us to launch on other mobile devices with relative ease. We looked for a solution which will help us to create diverse and visually attractive POLITYKA editions for different mediums, without the need to setup a new graphical team. The platform based on Pixblish, created by POLITYKA and Polidea is a perfect match" - said Joanna Chmielecka, POLITYKA’s Director of Internet.

Pixblish facilitates the creation of electronic editions of publications such as books, weekly and daily magazines and brochures, for the iPhone/iPad, Android devices and (from Q2 2011) for Amazon Kindle. Application markets of respective platforms (Apple App Store, Android Market and Amazon Kindle Store) are used for distribution and payment processing. The final publication may be billed by single edition, available per subscription or simply free.
"POLITYKA is not the first publication created using our platform" said Polidea CEO, Jakub Lipiński. "We have for example a quite successful cooperation with Herder publishing house from Germany. However, this launch is probably the biggest test of the platform to date, due to the immense popularity of traditional publication – circulation 190 thousand – and complexity of publisher CMS systems that we had to integrate with. Pixblish passed this with flying colours".

See Pixblish website for more information.

POLITYKA electronic edition for iPad is already available at the Apple App Store.

Allegro application released

Polidea announced today the successful completion of the Allegro Windows Mobile client. Commissioned by QXL Poland, owner of Allegro, the client allows users of Windows Mobile devices full control over their buying and selling activities on the largest online auction site in Central and Eastern Europe.

"Our application literally compresses the power of Allegro into the palm of one’s hand" said John
Bailey, Project Engineer at Polidea. "Practically all of the functionality of traditional web based site is available on a mobile device – buying, selling, tracking auctions, checking sellers' reputation score – you name it. Usually it is even more convenient. For example you can snap a
photo of an item with phone’s camera and have it posted with its own price and description in less than a minute. It gets addictive."

The user interface design mimics the principles used in other mobile versions of Allegro. However,
certain modifications have been made to better integrate it within the Microsoft Windows Mobile
environment and specific properties of a typical device, such as resistive touch screen.

"I was very positively surprised by the result of Polidea’s work. They managed to recreate an iPhone
level user experience on a traditional Windows Phone. Amazing!” mentioned Kamil Brzeziński,
Mobile IT Manager at QXL Poland.

Polidea’s Allegro application is available from the Windows Marketplace for Windows Mobile 6.0,
6.1 and 6.5 devices. Windows 7 being a completely new operating system is currently not supported,
but initial design work has already started. "Windows 7 is based on a totally new model of user
interaction and this requires novel approach to designing user interfaces. This is our area of expertise
and we absolutely hope to be able to put our skills to good use while developing Allegro client for
this operating system in the future" said Polidea CEO, Jakub Lipiński.

Polidea to build the AR platform

On Feb 23rd Polidea signed an agreement with the Polish Agency of the Regional Development officially launching the development of augmented reality platform and associated applications, that will be subsidized within the European Fund for Regional Development programme.

The project was officially kick started in February, however Polidea employees have been working in the past months on building the universal software platform that will allow rapid development of various augmented reality applications for most of the mobile devices that are currently supported by Polidea. One of them will be a local information browser, allowing tourists and citizens to get and upload local information about attractions and businesses located in Polish cities. While this application will be created and marketed by Polidea, other companies will be able to license the augmented reality platform and create their own mobile products, focusing on other areas of information delivery.

Polidea welcomes Jarek Potiuk as its new Chief Technology Officer

Polidea today announced that Jarosław Potiuk has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. Potiuk will provide technology vision and leadership for company development teams and he will coordinate work carried out for strategic clients. One of his responsibilities will be also refinement of Polidea dedicated mobile software development methodology.

“Jarek is exactly the right technology manager for us” said Polidea CEO Jakub Lipiński. “He represents a very unique mix of skills, combining strong engineering background with very refined managerial skills and with good strategic insight. Especially that last quality is something very rarely found in the market today. He is also a geek, but in a very positive sense of the word, and this should allow him to quickly blend with the rest of our team”.

“I look forward to the blending” said Potiuk. “I have been able to collaborate with some of Polidea staff previously, including Jakub Lipiński, while organizing student workshops at the Warsaw University of Technology, sponsored by the company and also while at SkyCash, and that allowed me to observe that indeed, we all seem to share the same view of the software development process and the evolution of mobile market. Besides, Polidea is just a great place for a focused technology leader, clearly being at the forefront of the mobile development business in this part of Europe.”

“I am very pleased that we managed to convince Jarek to join us, as 2010 is going to be a very busy period for Polidea. We have several high profile and high technology projects in the pipeline, such as new Augmented Reality framework, and now, with the new CTO on board, I can rest assured that we can deliver them on schedule” added Jakub Lipiński.

Potiuk brings to Polidea more than 10 years of ICT management experience. Previously he was a CTO at SkyCash, responsible for successful implementation of one of the most advanced mobile payment platforms available worldwide and was working for Google as a Tech Team Leader and Manager helping to grow its first Polish R&D center in Krakow. A graduate of Warsaw University of Technology, he had been also a multinational development teams technical manager and Head of Technology while at Computaris and development Systems Manager in global Center of Expertise at Procter & Gamble.
